Dear Professor, whilst I sincerely hope that you managed to make your wish – in time – please do not consequently slaughter me. I have just realised that the year 2008 is, of course, the ninth year of the century. That comes from getting up early. In my defence it’s still 08/08/08. Beat that if you can.

Today is the eighth day of the eighth month of the eighth year of this century. Make the most of it.

And all you sleepy heads who have missed the moment of 0800 hours this morning to make that all important wish – DO NOT WORRY – most of us are given a second, even an eighth, chance.

As to you lot, West of Europe across the ocean, by dint of time difference, you’ll still have the opportunity. Move.
